Attaching the Word Template to a Document

Word provides a default template named Normal.dot. This template contains general purpose paragraph styles as defined by Microsoft designers. The template on the Templates page provides styles that were created specifically for Microfinancial IT documents. They give documents a clear, unique, and consistent layout.

To use this template to create technical documents, you need to place it in the proper folder and attach it your document. Follow these steps.

Downloading the Template

  1. Close any open Word documents and then close Word.
  2. Click here to download the template to your system.
  3. At the File Download box, click Save.
  4. At the Save As box, navigate to your Templates folder:
    C:\ -> Documents and Settings -> [your user name] -> Application Data -> Microsoft -> Templates
  5. Click Save.
  6. At the Download complete box, click Close. The template is now installed on your system.

Attaching the Template to a Document

  1. Close any open Word documents and then close Word.
  2. Go to the Templates page and download either the short or long Word document into the appropiate folder on your C drive, and then continue with step 3.
  3. Start Word and open the document you just downloaded.
  4. From the menu bar, select Tools -> Templates and Add-ins.
  5. At the Templates and Add-ins box, select the Templates tab and click Attach. This opens the Attach Template window showing all available templates.
  6. Select the abbie-normal.dot file and click Open.
  7. Click OK to attach the template. Your document is ready for editing.
